CBS Meeting Minutes – December 13, 2002
The December meeting was held at June and Ariel’s home in Milpititas.
There were 7 members who attended the meeting: June, Ariel, Chris, Wendy,
Dennis, Kathy and Joe.
The Christmas meeting at June and Ariel’s home was very festive, enjoyable
and full of good holiday cheer. The food was fabulous (especially June’s
Artichoke Dip) and a good time was had by all.
New Business
- The election of new CBS officers was held
at the meeting. At 5:19pm on Dec 13, 2002, the votes were cast and counted
and the newly elected CBS officers are as follows:
President: Wendy Lee
Vice President: Dennis Lee
Secretary: Kathy Cooper
Treasurer: June Delane
- Congratulations to the new officers. Everyone
was very enthusiastic about the new show year. We shared lots of ideas
about how to generate continuing interest in CBS to help boost the clubs
membership.
- Karlton has volunteered to take over the
CBS Web Site - Thank you Karlton!
- Is CBS a non-profit organization? June
is going to contact Larissa and find out where we stand on this issue.
- June and Wendy will work with Larissa
to transfer signature authority for the CBS Club Checking account.
- It was suggested that a 1 page newsletter
be provided to all CBS members on a periodic basis (hopefully monthly
but we didn’t want to hold anyone to this schedule). Also a multiple
page version complete with color photo’s could be provided on a quarterly
or less frequent basis. The club felt this would help generate more
membership in CBS. Wendy and Dennis have a Newsletter Software Program,
and they offered to generate the newsletter. One of the things the newsletter
can emphasize is the benefits of being a member of CBS. Some of the
benefits are:
- Free Trio of Bettas upon becoming
a dues paying member
- Periodic Newsletters
- Fun informative meetings
- Access to "awesome betta stock" through
CBS networking
- Ability to participate in fish shows
either hosted or associated with CBS
- The following topics were provided as
suggestions for future CBS meeting programs:
- A speaker on aquarium plants - Dennis
knows a Botanist who might be a good candidate
- A Tour of Jim Atchison’s newly expanded
Bug Farm
- A speaker on Fish Diseases – Dennis
knows a pathologist who specializes in fish diseases
- A Wine Raffle at the Fenestra Winery
Old Business
The 2003 Show schedule.
The Killi Club West Coast Weekend is going to be held at Centennial Hall
in Hayward in April 27-28. Wright Huntley asked if we would be willing
to trade resources between the Killi Club and the CBS Club. If we help
the Killi Club with their show in April, then they will help out CBS when
our show is held in September. Many Killi people are very interested in
Wild Type Betta’s, so this provided some additional ideas on how to get
as much club mileage out of the Killi Show for CBS:
- Set up a display of different kinds of
Wild Type Betta’s,
- Provide a guest speaker on Wild Types
and slot he/she into the Killi Club seminar schedule (if possible)
- Have plenty of Wild Types available for
auction to help generate some money for CBS.
There was also discussion about when the best time/month would be to
host CBS’s next International Betta Show. A date will be finalized soon.
CBS Club Minutes were taken on 12/13/02 and then edited
and submitted for publication on 12-30-02 by Kathy Cooper
