CBS Meeting Minutes – January 25, 2003

The January meeting was held at Pyzano’s Pizzeria in Castro Valley. There were 8 members who attended the meeting: June, Ariel, Chris, Karlton, Jim, Sarah, Kathy and Joe.

New Business

The CBS Website: A special thanks to Karlton for the outstanding work he’s done on the CBS website.

The Monthly CBS Newsletter: Everyone was very impressed with the quality and content of the CBS Newsletter. Thank you Dennis and Wendy!!! When asked about suggestions for the "Dr Dennis" Column, the following ideas were submitted as topics for the future:

-Parasites and their effect on Fish

-Common Bacterial Infections (Ick, Clamped Fins, Velvet, fungus etc)

Mike Randall the IBC Chapter Chair (see the latest Flare) would like more information about all the IBC chapters. The membership agreed it would be a good idea to provide Mike with some examples of what CBS is doing to build membership – copies of the monthly newsletter, the website etc. The membership thought this would be an appropriate task for our President.

Old Business

The 2003 Show schedule:

  • The Killi Club West Coast Weekend is going to be held at Centennial Hall in Hayward on April 26 and 27.
    • We are still organizing the schedule for the "West Coast Weekend" and will ask for members to volunteer and sign up to work at the next meeting.
    • Karlton suggested creating a sign up sheet – with specific times and duties that are required.
    • Jim Suggested the best thing to do was to sell fish on a "sale table" during the Killi show, so we could leave before the action starts. The auction can last for 4 hours or more and we probably don’t want to stay for the duration of that event.
    • Jim also mentioned that it is a common practice for the Killi people to charge their members the $20 entrance fee to attend the "West Coast Weekend". We need to make sure we will not be charged to volunteer our time.
  • The CBS International Show is scheduled for July 26 and 27th.
    • Jim Atchison agreed to receive and ship all the fish for the show (thank you Sarah and Jim!!!)
    • June had lots of suggestion for the show based on our experience last year which she will write up and provide at our next meeting.
    • Jim suggested talking to a BAKA member who developed a program in Microsoft Acess for Show Registration. Jim said it was a really slick program for entering and keeping track of fish during the show.
    • Kathy and Joe volunteered the use of their PC Laptop during the show.
    • We should make sure we capture the name, address, phone and web address of everyone who attends our show – then we can add them to our mailing list as potential new members. One way to do this is to have a drawing every couple of hours and give some stuff away. We get their info - they get free fish stuff.

The Treasurer’s Report:

  • June reported there is $2,096. in the CBS Treasury.
  • June estimated the club made about $1000 from the CBS show last May – primarily from the Auction. She is still following up on two bounced checks which she hoped to resolve shortly.
