CBS Meeting Minutes – March 22, 2003
The
February meeting was held at
The Fenestra Winery in Livermore. There were 17 people who attended the meeting: June, Ariel, Karlton, Sarah, Christine, Paul, Larissa, Nicole and Shane,
Cosmin and Juana, Albert, Jude, Kathy
and Joe, and Dennis and Wendy. Nicole and Shane, and Cosmin and Juana were returning members and
it was great to see them. It
was wonderful to see Jude and
Larissa too, and we hope to see them at more meetings.
June
arranged for us to taste a wonderful a variety of fabulous wines during
the meeting, courtesy of the Fenestra Winery.
We had a fabulous Merlot, Mouverdre
and Chardonnay which helped several members decided on what wine
to bring home.
New Business The
focus of the meeting was to conduct a “Best Betta Reference” book review. Club members brought their favorite fish or Betta books and then
provided a review about what made that particular book or books helpful
or informative. The
top picks were:
Dennis
– “Betta – A Complete Pet Owner’s Manual” by Goldstein. Dennis thought this was a good all around book about how to raise
Betta’s.
Joe
– “Handbook of Fish Diseases” by Deiter Untergasser – a good reference
for fish diseases. Joe also
liked “All About Betta’s” by Walt Maurus. It’s a classic in the Betta
world and is another good basic book on Betta’s.
Christine
– “Aquarium Fish” by Schliewen - a
good basic book about fish in general.
Also, “Dr. Axelrods’s Mini Atlas” by Axelrod.
Another good reference book.
Albert
– “Ecology of the Planted Aquarium” by Diane Walstad. The book has great
descriptions of plants that work well in aquariums (but unfortunately
there are no illustrations).
Dennis
and Wendy are going to attend the Sacramento Aquarium Society meeting
in May. Dennis agreed to make a presentation about
Betta’s to the Sacramento Club the first Saturday in May to help out
Gilbert who had made the commitment to give a presentation then had
a schedule conflict.
