CBS Meeting Minutes – September 27, 2003

The September meeting was held at The Fenestra Winery in Livermore. There were lots of new, returning and potential CBS members in attendance.

Congratulations to Albert Mui, Bruce Kep, Jeanette Wong, Nicole Yamada and Doris Kyburz, who received a free trio of Bettas as a result of joining CBS.

June arranged for us to taste a wonderful a variety of fabulous wines during the meeting, courtesy of the Fenestra Winery. We tasted a fabulous Merlot and wonderful Viognier which helped make the meeting that much more enjoyable.

New Business

Dennis Lee gave a fabulous presentation on "Food and Nutrition for Domesticated Siamese Fighting Fish". Dennis had lots of examples of different sources of food and samples for members to take home. He also provided everyone with a complete write up of his presentation at the end of his talk. This was an excellent overview of live foods and provided members with lots of ideas about how to provide a healthy and varied diet for their betta friends.

Karlton asked if there were any members who were computer and website savvy, to act as his backup as CBS webmaster? Any volunteers?

It was suggested that a "Market Place" section be added to the CBS website, to allow members or the club in general to sell things.

Old Business

Raising the CBS Annual Dues

  • The club decided to go ahead and raise the membership dues to $15 a year. The dues will be prorated if someone joins the club in the latter half of the year. This will make it easier to assess the dues owed and track membership renewal. The rates will be as follows:
    • Join CBS in the first half of the year – experience a whole year's benefit of membership – dues are $15 (Jan-June)
    • Join CBS in the latter half of the year (July-Dec) and we will discount the dues by $5 - then the dues are $10 for the remainder of the year.

The Treasurer’s Report:

  • June reported CBS has a total of $2,048.52 in the club Treasury.
  • Future Meeting Dates :
    • November – No meeting
    • December – Christmas Party Meeting at Kathy and Joe Cooper’s house. Located at 5876 Cold Water Drive in Castro Valley. Directions will be posted on the CBS website.

CBS Club Elections are coming up. Please submit your nominations for 2004 CBS officers via e-mail to: lee_bettaworks@comcast.net. Ballots will be mailed out in the November Newsletter and 2004 officers will be installed at the December Meeting/Christmas Party.

E-Mail Inquiries to the CBS Website will be handled by Wendy and Dennis for the remainder of the year.
